Profile optimization

Profile optimization checks your Google Business Profile against what Google and your customers look at, turns what's missing into a score and a short list, and fixes the parts it can. The rest it hands to you, with a plain note on each.

What it does

The score starts at 100 and loses points for each problem found, more for serious ones than small ones. The checks cover whether the profile is connected and complete, how many photos it has, whether anything has been posted in the last two weeks, how many services are listed, how often reviews are coming in, what the recent rating is, and whether there's a current offer.

Every item on the list is marked as one the product fixes or one you fix. What it fixes is the wording on your profile. It rewrites the business description each month, adds descriptions for services you've confirmed, and switches on the yes-or-no attributes Google offers that truthfully apply to your business.

It also keeps an eye on what it doesn't change. If your profile has no opening hours, it adds the ones from your setup. If hours already exist, it never overwrites them; when they change on Google, you get a task telling you so.

Why it matters

Your Google profile is often the first thing a customer sees, before your website and before they pick up the phone. A two-line description, three services when you do twelve, and a handful of old photos tell that customer, and Google, less than the profiles next to yours do.

Most of those gaps take minutes to close and stay open for years, because nobody knows which ones matter. A single score with the reasons written next to it makes the list short and specific enough to act on.

How it works

  1. Your profile is read

Once your Google profile is connected, the product reads what's on it: the description, services, attributes, hours, photos, posts and reviews.

  2. The checks run

Each problem costs points according to how much it matters. The score is worked out fresh every time you look, so it moves as the work gets done.

  3. It writes what it can

A new description is written that names only services you've confirmed and the areas you serve. If the new version would lose a town, a qualifier or an offer your current one mentions, it tries once more, and if it still falls short your existing description stays.

  4. You approve the wording

The new description and any new service descriptions wait for your approval before they go to Google.

  5. It checks again every month

Each month your live profile is compared with what it should say, and anything that has drifted is queued to be put right.

What you do

Work through your half of the list. Photos, reviews and a current offer are things only you can supply, and the audit tells you which are missing and why each one counts.

Keep your service list honest. The product only describes services on your confirmed list, so if something you do is missing from it, it stays missing from your profile until you tell us.

Read the description before you approve it. It's the most visible block of text on your profile, and it goes out in your name.

Where it stops

  • It never changes your business name or your categories. If your primary category is wrong, fixing it is up to you.
  • It adds services and switches attributes on; it doesn't take them away. Removing a service from your profile isn't available yet.
  • It won't set attributes about accessibility, ownership or identity, or health and licensing. Those are statements only you can make.
  • The score measures your profile, not your ranking. A full score means the profile itself isn't what's holding you back; it doesn't promise a top-three position.
  • Attributes it switches on don't wait for approval the way written text does, because they're yes-or-no facts rather than wording in your voice.

Questions about profile optimization

What does the score actually measure?

Whether your profile is connected and complete, and how it's doing on photos, posts, services, keywords, reviews and offers. Each problem found takes points off, weighted by how much it matters.

Will it rewrite my description without asking?

No. The new description waits for your approval. It has to keep every town, qualifier and offer your current description mentions, and if it can't, your existing text stays as it is.

Why won't it add a service I offer?

It only describes services on your confirmed list, so nothing appears on your profile that you don't actually do. Once a service is confirmed, it can be added and described.

Does it change my categories?

No. It reads them to understand your trade, but choosing and changing categories stays with you.

Why did my score go down when I didn't change anything?

Some checks depend on time. A post that was recent last week isn't recent now, and a quiet month for reviews shows up as fewer arriving. The score reflects the profile as it is today.
